While front bumper covers make your vehicle's appearance look aesthetic, a small dent, bump, or crash can make them look unpleasant and terrible. Therefore, replacing is the only option if your vehicle's front bumper is completely out of place.

However, bumper repairs and insurance coverage can cost you a fortune if you visit an auto body shop for repair. Why waste money when you can do it yourself?

That's right! Front bumper replacement is no rocket science. Here is a stepwise tutorial to guide you to change your vehicle's bumper.

Tools Needed for Front Bumper Replacement

Any mechanical work requires some tools. Following are some of them:

  • Spanner set
  • Socket
  • Ratchet set
  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Wire clippers
  • Wheel ramp or jack

Step One - Removing the Cover/Bumper Guards

Modern front bumpers include a metal shield (bumper cover) and an actual bumper cover. Therefore, you have to remove both of them through the following steps:

Step Two - Bumper Removal

Removing the bumper will require you to remove a lot of bolts. Therefore, carefully implement the following steps while removing the bumper:

  • Firstly, use the wheel ramp to raise your vehicle's height so that you can easily work underneath it.
  • Modern vehicles have wheel well/fender lines and covers which hide all the bumper screws. Therefore, you must unscrew the rivets to pull off the wheel cover.
  • Use your screwdriver or spanner set to remove the bolts that connect the wheel well to the bumper.
  • Once you have removed the bolts from underneath the vehicle, remove the bolts from the top side of the bumper.
  • Using the ratchet set and the socket, pull the plastic retainers and unplug the fog light from the bumper.
  • Your bumper will only be connected with a plastic clip that can come off after pulling the bumper.

Step Three - Attaching the new bumper

After removing your car bumper, you must attach your new bumper cover using the steps below:

  • You must ensure to remove all the wiring, fog lights, covers, and turn signals from your old, damaged bumper cover.
  • Attach all the bumper material back onto the new aftermarket bumper cover.
  • Once it's done, press the car frame onto your vehicle's body. Keep it in place through the plastic clip hook.
  • Connect all the nuts and bolts to reattach the retainers, wheel covers, and wheel well.
  • Realign the cover with the vehicle's hook and press it for reattachment. You'll hear a snapping voice once it connects
  • Reattach all the bolts to connect the cover to the grille.

Here you'll have your new bumper cover fixated on your vehicle. If you want to change your rear bumper covers, you can use the same steps. The only difference will be that you'll find the bolts near the trunk.

Whether your car has modern bumpers or plastic bumpers, the process for front bumper replacement will be almost similar.

Pro-Tip

The only tip you must keep in mind is to keep all the screws and bolts securely in a specific place because it may get difficult to replace if you lose some of the screws.

Also, it's a good option to use someone's help because things may get messy if you do it alone.
